Dave Hooper resigns Texas post to become Fair Grounds steward

Dave Hooper has resigned as executive director of the Texas Thoroughbred Association to become an association steward at Fair Grounds in New Orleans for the upcoming Thoroughbred meet that opens Thanksgiving Day. For the past two years, Hooper has been a steward during the track’s meet for Quarter Horses.

Hooper has served as executive director of the TTA for the past 14 years. He joined the group, which represents nearly 2,000 breeders in Texas, after working as a steward in the state. The TTA is based in Austin.

Hooper’s resignation is to take effect “no later than Nov. 9,” according to a notice posted on the TTA’s website. His resignation was confirmed through a staff member on Wednesday. Hooper did not immediately return a call on Wednesday.

Hooper’s resignation letter to the TTA’s board of directors read in part, “It has been a distinct honor to serve as the Texas Thoroughbred Association’s executive directory for nearly 15 years. Many of the best memories will last a lifetime, as will the friendships made.”

The TTA, in its notice, expressed gratitude to Hooper for his service to the organization. The board will meet before any decisions are made on replacing Hooper.
