Dash For Daylight captures Bernhardt


Dash For Daylight, left behind among the Churchill Downs string while Elliott Walden travels to Saratoga his summer, wore down Better Road in the final urlong Saturday to win the $49,5000 Don Bernhardt takes at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.

Dash For Daylight, ridden by Tony D'mico, prevailed y a half-length, returning $4.40 as favorite in a field of 10 older horses. He finished 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.51 over a fast track for his fifth victory from 11 lifetime starts.Sold to Wallstreet and longshot Smart Revenge led early in the 24th running of the Bernhardt, but Better Road assumed command in mid-stretch. Dash For Daylight, having saved ground while stalking the pace, then angled out to launch his winning bid.

Dash For Daylight is a 4-year-old colt by Cherokee Run. He is owned by Prestonwood Farm.

Proven Cure finished third. He Be Irish was an early scratch.
