Michael Buckley, who served as nominations manager for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland, died suddenly on Saturday at age 45, according to a statement from the farm. His cause of death is undetermined.

Buckley had worked at Kildangan Stud—the Irish base of Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley stallion operation—since 2000, and was well known in the European bloodstock industry.

“We are all shocked an heartbroken about this terrible news,” Kildangan Stud managing director Joe Osborne said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mick’s wife Caitriona, his sons Jamie, Andrew and Robbie, his parents Donal and Pauline, his brothers, his sister and his extended family. His family has requested privacy at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
