Trainer Cathal Lynch has decided to run Danzatrice in the Acorn.

Parx-based trainer Cathal Lynch said Danzatrice, winner of the Parx Oaks, would run in the Grade 1 Acorn on the Belmont Stakes undercard next Saturday. Lynch said he spoke with Gainesway Stable owner Antony Beck and his racing manager John Fort on the decision.

“We know it will be a very tough race, but we’re going to give it a go,” Lynch said. “Trevor McCarthy is going to ride.”

Kentucky Oaks runner-up Shook Up, as well as multiple graded winners Birdatthewire and Condo Commando are expected for the Acorn.

Lynch vanned Danzatrice to Belmont May 21 and worked her a mile in 1:48 over the main track.

“We took her over there to work because Belmont can be a funny course,” Lynch said. “It’s sandy, and we wanted to give her a feel of it. We worked her a mile because I wanted her to go over the ground she’ll be racing on.”

Lynch said the slow time was by design.

“She worked a mile but really we two-minute licked her the first half and then worked a half in 50,” he said. “It’s the Irish way. We work a lot of miles. We just wanted to put a little air in her.”

Danzatrice, a daughter of Dunkirk, is 3 for 4 in her career. She is a head away from being undefeated, as she was narrowly beaten in an allowance race in her second career start. She was impressive winning the $75,000 Parx Oaks in her last start when stretching out from 5 1/ 2 furlongs to a mile and 70 yards.

Lynch had his best year as a trainer in 2014, winning 79 races and more than $2.2 million in purses. He was 79 for 272 on the year, a winning average of 29 percent.
