Danehills lead at Tattersalls

Two weanlings from Danehill's final crop logged the highest prices so far at the Tattersalls December foal sale in Newmarket, England.

A colt out of Zarawa, by Khayasi, brought approximately $1,012,095 from B.B.A. Ireland's Adrian Nicol. Bob Lanigan's Tullamaine Castle Stud in County Tipperary, Ireland, was the consignor.

About an hour later, Peter Doyle Bloodstock went to about $942,638 to acquire a filly out of Irish Oaks winner Knight's Baroness offered by breeder Bjorn Neilsen. The filly is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Riyadian.

Through Friday's third of four sessions, the December foal auction had sold 545 lots for gross revenue of approximately $26,009,651. The average price was about $47,723. The third session sold 181 weanlings for about $15,253,462, for an average price of about $84,274 and a $51,597 median. In the local auction currency of guineas, the day-three results represented a 14 percent decline in gross, a 6 percent drop in average, and a 13 percent slip in median.

The auction was to continue through Saturday, followed by a sale of mares and mixed stock from Monday through Thursday.
