Dancing Till Dawn scores at 15-1


Owner/trainer Del Waite and jockey Osvaldo Vargas pulled off the upset when Dancing Till Dawn ($32.60) rallied to win the $50,000 Ann Arbor Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths at Pinnacle Race Course on Monday.

Twilighted Thistle and Clever Idea finished second and third, respectively, while favored Wave Pool was up for fourth in the field of 10..

Dancing Till Dawn saved ground and snuck through when the rail was open late on the far turn. She raced the mile in 1:41.83 and earned $30,000 in winning the race for 3-year-old Michigan-bred fillies. She was bred by Del and Valerie Waite. Waite had a training double, winning with Febes Academy Won in the first.

* Hot Chili ($7.60) captured the $50,000 Dowling Stakes, also at a mile.

Fiery Lake was four lengths back in second with favored Bipolar Express another 1 1/4 lengths behind him in the field of 10 statebred colts and geldings.

Hot Chili, owned by Sharon Valley Thorughbred Farm, is trained by James Jackson, who also won the fourth race with Crimson Whisper. Mary Doser guided Hot Chili through the mile in 1:40.22. He also earned $30,000 for his first win of the year and fifth in his career.
