As we head toward the finish line for 2012, it's time to look back on the year in horse racing. Cast your vote below on some of the biggest races and storylines of the year, and look for the poll results in the Dec. 29 edition of DRF Weekend. Vote by 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Dec. 21, to be included in the published results. Be sure to share the poll on Facebook and Twitter, and let us know in the comments why you voted the way you did.
[Note: Votes may not always register immediately in the displayed results. Don't worry - if the green checkmark showed up, your vote got in.]
"Hey! My horse wasn't one of the poll choices!" Let us know who you would have voted for in the comments below.
SHACKLEFORD winning the Met Mile by a nose over CALEB'S POSSE was one of my favorite races of the year.

It was so great to see the 9 year old Calidoscopio win the BC Marathon with an incredible turn of foot stretch run coming from last to first and become the oldest horse to win a BC race. It was almost a carbon copy of his "Win and you're in" race. Great stuff !

Best Race of the Year: Tie in Travers @ Saratoga

The ARC was the best race as far as being a gut check down to the wire finish in a huge event. Slow time but time only counts in prison. Would like to see an American horse pointed to the ARC. It surpasses the BC Turf in my opinion.

I am so proud of horse racing fans that acknowledge the incredible nature of AK's 2nd place finish to Wise Dan. What a beautiful horse, with so much potential. Incredible adversity this horse has faced and he just keeps showing up. Not to mention, that race was against arguable the 2nd best horse in the world right now, he got a horrible trip, and he would have won had the race been another 1/16th longer. Cheering for AK to have a big year. Hope he makes it to Dubai and moreover, I hope we see him in the classic next year or a rematch against WD.

MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
