Daddys Blushing stays perfect with Mountain Top victory


Daddys Blushing ran his career record to 4 for 4 on Saturday when he darted to a half-length win over favorite and fastest qualifier Flash Moonfire in the $392,586 Mountain Top Futurity for Quarter Horses at Ruidoso Downs.

It was another half-length back to Bigg Daddy in third.

The race was a restricted Grade 3 for 2-year-olds bred in New Mexico.

Daddys Blushing ($13.60) set the pace and went on to cover 350 yards on a track rated fast in 17.42 seconds. Francisco Calderon was aboard for Gary Hartstack and trainer Jackie Riddle. Daddys Blushing earned $164,873.

Daddys Blushing launched his career April 7 in Texas with a trial win at Sam Houston. He proceeded to capture the track’s $48,000 Sam Houston Juvenile on April 29 before making his way to New Mexico. Daddys Blushing won his Mountain Top trial by 1 1/4 lengths June 2 at Ruidoso, covering 350 yards in 17.83 seconds. It was the fifth-fastest qualifying time behind Flash Moonfire in 17.70.
