Multiple Grade 2 winner D’ Funnybone’s first foal was born on Feb. 5 at Dr. Bernardo Mongil’s Monhill Farm in Pine Plains, N.Y.
The foal, a filly bred by Mike Schrader, is out of the winning Saint Ballado mare Ballado Hill, who has produced two winners from four foals to race. It is the family of champion, classic winner, and sire Temperence Hill.
A 6-year-old son of D’Wildcat, D’ Funnybone won five Grade 2 stakes in 2009 and 2010 as a 2- and 3-year-old for owner Paul Pompa, Jr. He won the Saratoga Special and the Futurity Stakes back-to-back as a juvenile by a combined 15 1/4 lengths and recorded wins in the Hutcheson Stakes, Swale Stakes, and Woody Stephens Stakes as a 3-year-old. He retired in 2011 with a record of six wins from 15 starts and $686,700 in earnings.
Florida-bred D’ Funnybone is out of the winning Woodman mare Elbow and is a half-brother to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Dr. Kathy.
D’ Funnybone stands at Vinery New York at Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag, N.Y., for a fee of $3,500 when the foal stands and nurses.
