Crowned Dancer wires Hollywood Juvenile

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - A convincing victory by Crowned Dancer in Saturday's $103,800 Hollywood Juvenile Championship left jockey Alex Solis anxious for the major 2-year-olds stakes of the upcoming Del Mar meeting.

"The way he finished, it looked like he wanted to go on," Solis said.

Crowned Dancer led throughout the Grade 3 Juvenile, winning by two lengths.

Owned by Charlie and Karen Cono and the Eastern Sky Unlimited Trust, Crowned

Dancer ($7.80) finished six furlongs in 1:10.10.

Breaking from the outside in a field of seven, Crowned Dancer led through fractions of 22.59 and 45.22 seconds. Wearing blinkers for the first time, Crowned Dancer was never seriously challenged after even-money favorite Kafwain broke poorly.

Outta Here, a maiden, launched a sustained rally to finish second, a length in front of 11-1 Chief Planner. Kafwain finished fourth, followed by Oberwald, Pine for Java and Kimon.

Crowned Dancer has won 2 of 4 starts and $122,858, including the Proctor Memorial Stakes on May 26. On June 16, he was third as the favorite in the Haggin Stakes.

"Last time, he was a little flat and didn't want to go," Solis said. "Today, he was more himself."
