Crockett duo strong in Shinpoch

AUBURN, Wash. - The Ron Crockett-owned entry of The Case Queen and Carrie With a C figures to dominate the betting in Saturday's $75,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at a mile.

The Case Queen, a daughter of Gold Case trained by Tom Wenzel, is undefeated and untested after a pair of runaway wins. She beat maiden special weight company by 6 1/4 lengths here on July 16, then came back on Aug. 13 to down allowance rivals by nearly nine lengths with 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.40, earning a 67 Beyer.

Carrie With a C, a Beau Genius filly from the barn of trainer Terry Gillihan, matched that Beyer in her most recent outing, a 5 1/2-length score over maiden special weight company on Aug. 28, when she got 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.60. In her only prior start, Carrie With a C finished a troubled second to Chestnut Lady in a six-furlong maiden special weight test on Aug. 6.

Chestnut Lady has raced only one time, and will be conceding seasoning to her rivals.

The most serious of the 10 threats to the favored entry could be She's All Silk, who defeated $40,000 maidens by nearly 12 lengths after 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03 on Aug. 13. That was the third start for She's All Silk, a Pat Mullens-trained daughter of Delineator, and it netted the highest last-race Beyer in the field, a 72.

Also dangerous is Cinderella Liberty, who won the restricted Strong Ruler Stakes for trainer Bud Klokstad on Aug. 20.
