Crist home from hospital

Steven Crist, the handicapping expert and publisher emeritus of Daily Racing Form, was released from a Long Island, N.Y., hospital Wednesday, according to family members, 2 1/2 weeks after suffering a major cardiac arrest at home.

Crist, 57, is mobile but is expected to face several weeks of recovery at home, family members said. Crist had been in the intensive-care unit of the hospital for most of his stay but was discharged from intensive care Tuesday.

Crist is one of the preeminent handicapping authorities in the modern era of horse racing. He has published several handicapping books and a memoir entitled “Betting on Myself.”

Crist was part of a group that purchased DRF in 1998, just after resigning as a vice president of the New York Racing Association. Although the ownership group later sold DRF , Crist stayed on, and he writes periodic columns and is the writer of one of the most popular blogs in horse racing during the summer meet at Saratoga.
