Crisane tops sprint for fillies


ALBANY, Calif. - Six 3-year-old fillies meet in Wednesday's feature at Golden Gate Fields, a $62,500 optional claiming event at six furlongs.

were second and third, respectively, in a similar spot on Dec. 30. Crisane scored a nine-length victory at Hollywood Park in her previous start and was being considered for the Sunshine Millions before running second to Slew Motion in the Dec. 30 race.

Crisane is the one to beat, although Love Fest, who won her debut by four lengths on June 9, returns for her second start. She was visually impressive, but the race was a bit on the slow side.

Lumpkins, Rollins return

Jason Lumpkins, riding for the first time since he sustained a dislocated left shoulder in a fall on Nov. 14, scored back-to-back wins with his first two mounts Saturday aboard Relaxing Green and Motel Staff.

Chance Rollins has been out since Oct. 15 with a displaced fracture of the left wrist. He has been working horses for two weeks and will have a precautionary X-ray taken Wednesday, but his agent, Paige Schvaneveldt, was accepting calls for him Monday in anticipation that Rollins will be ready to ride on Thursday's program.

* Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze entered the week only 10 victories shy of tying Bill Shoemaker for second on the all-time victory list with 8,833 wins. Baze had eight mounts Monday and is listed on five Wednesday.
