Cozi Rosie closes strong to win Senorita

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Cozi Rosie won Sunday's at Hollywood Park in a style that suggested she will be a factor in turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies in Southern California in coming months.

Winning her first stakes in her third try, Cozi Rosie rallied from sixth in a field of seven to win the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes by a length over Andina. Ridden by Mike Smith, Cozi Rosie ($9.20) ran a mile on turf in 1:35.11. City to City, the even-money favorite, finished third after leading in the final furlong.

Trained by John Sadler, Cozi Rosie was fifth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks on March 6 and a troubled seventh in the Grade 2 Providencia Stakes on April 3 in her last two starts.

Owned by breeders Jerry and Ann Moss, Cozi Rosie has won 3 of 7 starts and $127,280.

"I think she's just coming into her own," Jerry Moss said. "The last couple of works she did for John were good."

Sadler mentioned the $250,000 American Oaks over 1 1/4 miles on turf on July 3 as a long-term goal for Cozi Rosie, who is by Pleasantly Perfect. Moss contends that as a closer Cozi Rosie should be able to run longer distances.

"This style agrees with her," he said.
