New York-based sire Cosmonaut earned his first win at stud on August 8 when Marvin’s Miracle held on gamely to win a maiden special weight at Saratoga Race Course by three-quarters of a length.

Marvin’s Miracle completed the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:43.90 over turf labeled as firm, resulting in a 69 Beyer Speed Figure. He is owned by Bacon Barn and trained by Juan Coronel.

The gray or roan colt is the first foal out of the winning Western Expression mare Idle Gossip. Both mare and foal were sold in the dispersal of late New York breeder Carl Lizza’s Flying Zee Stable during the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale, with Marvin’s Miracle selling as a weanling for $17,000.

Cosmonaut, an 11-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid, is managed by Highcliff Stallions, and stands at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for an advertised fee of $5,000. His first crop consists of 21 juveniles.

A two-turn specialist on the turf during his racing career, Cosmonaut won consecutive editions of the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap at Arlington Park in 2006 and 2007. He also won the Grade 3 Golden Gate Fields Handicap in 2006 and the Grade 3 Fort Marcy Stakes at Belmont Park in 2009, helping bring his win total to eight in 36 career starts for earnings of $1,397,723.

Cosmonaut is out of the Grade 2-placed winning Capote mare Cosmic Fire, who is the dam of seven winners from as many foals to race. He is a half-brother to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Fire With Fire and stakes-placed winner Kickin’ the Clouds.
