Correct Call wins Royal North at Beulah

Grove City, Ohio - Correct Call came from off a quick early pace to draw clear and win the $50,000 Royal North at Beulah Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jockey Justin Shepherd kept the 3-year-old filly to the outside and behind the dueling leaders, who covered the first quarter-mile in 21.58 seconds. Shepherd asked Correct Call on the turn and she responded, drawing even with the leaders while five wide. Correct Call drew clear by a length at the top of the stretch and was under firm handling to maintain that margin to the wire in the Royal North, a six-furlong sprint which drew a field of eight Ohio-bred fillies.

Ohio Star overcame some early trouble after being pinched back soon after the start but finished second in her first outing this season, three-quarters of a length in front of pacesetting Miss Twenty One in third.

Trained by Mark Shuman, Correct Call covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1.09.62. Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Correct Call returned $4.40.
