Coronado Rose wins the $40,000 River Oaks at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday.

Coronado Rose, who lifted Steve Asmussen to a North American record for trainer wins in a year in November, picked up her third career stakes win Saturday night when she drove to a length and a half win in the $40,000 at Sam Houston Race Park.

Texas Spirit finished second in the six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies, three-quarters of a length clear of 27-1 shot Lip Gloss.

Coronado Rose ($3) broke well from her rail post and led throughout, cutting fractions of 22.18 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.59 seconds for the half-mile mark. She covered the distance in 1:11.82.

Roman Chapa rode Coronado Rose for Asmussen. She earned $24,000 for the win, which was her fourth from six starts. She has earned $123,770 for the partnership of Keith Asmussen and Ocean Front Property.

Cornado Rose won the $40,000 Delta Belle at Delta Downs on Nov. 20, giving Asmussen his 497th win in 2004, and breaking a 1976 record for trainer wins in a year set by Jack Van Berg.
