Coolmore buys Group 1 winner Sea Siren
International racing and breeding operation Coolmore has privately purchased three-time Australian Group 1 winner Sea Siren and will add her to its broodmare band, Racing Post reports.
The 4-year-old Australian-bred Fastnet Rock mare will make her final start on Saturday in the BTC Cup at Doomben Racecourse for trainer John O’Shea. Sea Siren won last year’s edition of the BTC Cup to earn her first of three career Group 1 races. She most recently finished fifth to Black Caviar in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes.
In total, Sea Siren has won six of 13 races for earnings of $1,561,267. She is a four-time stakes winner, notching victories in the Group 1 BTC Cup, Doomben 10,000, and the Manikato Stakes, as well as the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes.
Sea Siren is out of the Success Express mare Express a Smile, who is the dam of seven winners from ten to race, including Group 2 winner Lady Dehere, Group 3 winner Oratorio, and stakes winner Discorsi. The latter two stand at stud in Australia.
In addition to the stallions, fillies out of Express a Smile have excelled in the breeding shed. Sea Siren’s half-sister Lady Dehere has produced three winners from four to race, including Group 2 winner Oracy and Group 3-placed The Lady. Another half-sister, Dubai Express, is a stakes producer as well.
