Cool Cowboy takes Sophomore Sprint Championship at 1-2

Cool Cowboy cruises home to win the Sophomore Sprint Championship under Eduardo Perez.

It took Cool Cowboy about three furlongs to shake loose from Stunt Double in the $85,000 Sophomore Sprint Championship at Mountaineer Park on Tuesday evening, but once he did it was game over.

Cool Cowboy took a clear lead on the far turn of the six-furlong stakes and then was not challenged in the stretch winning by 4 1/2 lengths. He was timed in 1:10.25 following fractions of 22.25, 45.23, and 57.76.

Cool Cowboy paid $3 to win. He is trained by Dale Bennett and was ridden by Eduardo Perez. The win was Cool Cowboy’s fifth from 10 career starts and his third in a stakes. He has finished worse than second only once in his career.

Rockin Donovan stayed to the rail throughout and was up to gain second by 1 1/2 lengths over Stunt Double, who finished third. Second choice Debt Ceiling was fourth, 2 1/2 lengths further back.

This is a neat horse. He travels all over the place and he likes to run hard! Look forward to seeing where he goes next.

He has nice cruising speed and finishes well, would like to see him go to Santa Anita, for a winter campaign.
