Control Stake cruises as heavy favorite in Big Drama

Gerard Melancon guides Control Stake to a two-length win in the Big Drama for 3-year-olds.

Control Stake delivered as the 1-5 favorite at Delta Downs on Saturday night, when he rolled to a two-length win in the $75,000 Big Drama. The seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds was run around two turns. Fusaichi Flame finished second, a head in front of third-place finisher Lucky Stranger.

Control Stake ($2.40) was moving back to two turns following a third-place finish in a sprint stakes at Fair Grounds. He was pushed through fractions of 23.44 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.92 for the half-mile before going on to complete the distance on a track rated wet-fast in 1:27.32.

Gerard Melancon was aboard Control Stake for trainer Tom Amoss.

Control Stake had raced around two turns once before, and finished second in the $200,000 Jean Lafitte at Delta Downs. He earned $45,000 for his Big Drama win for owners Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence. Control Stake, who overall has won 3 of 6 career starts, is a son of Discreetly Mine.
