It’s a busy weekend of contest action at DRF Tournaments and at Keeneland. The eyes of the contest world will be on Lexington, Ky., with the $500 Spring Challenge on Saturday and the Grade 1 Gamble on Sunday. Large fields are expected for both events with a strong group of players descending on Lexington from around the country.As for online, on Saturday the World Championship of Handicapping qualifiers take center stage. An announcement is expected in the next few weeks about the specifics of the 2019 WCH but here’s what we know for sure: It’s going to be a big-money purse, there will be no takeout in the finals, and entries cost $5,000. Assuming full participation of 200 entries, which should happen in the second year of the contest, the total purse will be $1 million. Saturday’s qualifier requires players to put up $580 and one in 10 will win their buy-ins.On Sunday, there are three featured contests at DRFT, starting with a qualifier for the World Horseplayers’ Tour/Santa Anita Preakness Challenge. The WHT/SA Challenge takes place May 19-20 at the Great Race Place. This is another great opportunity for players with all the prize money added. Additionally, the event will be filmed for a television pilot. Sunday’s qualifier costs $458 and one in 12 players will win their $5,000 bankrolls. Qualifying for both the WCH and the WHT/SA contest is available exclusively at DRF Tournaments.Sunday’s biggest prize is a $10,000 seat to the Belmont Stakes Challenge, and it comes with $500 in travel money as well. The entry fee for the qualifier is $410 and one in 30 entries will win the $10,500 package. For the contest to go, 25 entries are required. As of Thursday morning, 15 entries have qualified with three feeders left to run, so things are looking good.Finally on Sunday, there’s a qualifier for the Monmouth Pick Your Prize contest. Pick Your Prize has proved very popular in its two years of existence. This year’s contest takes place on Saturday, June 2. Players can buy in directly for $2,000 or win their way in through qualifiers like the one on Sunday at DRFT. Entries are $126 and one winning package will be awarded for every 23 entries.
