Contenders Profiles Claiming Series Leg 1 Division 3—Race 9

Division 3—Race 9

1. Saratoga’s Magic
Owner:  Cindy Hoover
Trainer: Cindy Hoover
Jockey: Ruben Camacho
Last race was pretty weak, but two starts back he ran a decent third against open $4,000 claimers, so he’s dipping a bit in class which could wake him up at a price from the rail.

2. Catanita
Owner:  Bob Seapy
Trainer: Steve Fisher
Jockey: Eliska Kubinova
Has won two straight and seems to close well and has some heart, as he’s gotten up to win in the last couple jumps in each of those two wins.  Saves five pounds with the apprentice and always seems to run a good one.

3. Meshuguna
Owner:  Jeanette Orsborn
Trainer: Debbie Van Horne
Jockey: Javier Matias
This horse ran second in a stakes just three starts back and he’s certainly the logical favorite in this spot.  Leading jockey Matias gets back aboard and this runner gets back to two turns, which is how he won two starts back.

4. Doctor of Pav
Owner:  Constance Roberts and Bob Pavalunas
Trainer: Rigoberto Velasquez
Jockey: Joe Crispin
Pretty solid router and has been close in his last couple of starts, but those were non-winners in 9 months, so this is definitely a step up in class.  Should be closing late if the pace gets strong early.

5. Delavega
Owner:  Karen Huston
Trainer: Karen Huston
Jockey: Jose Zunino
Has ran just twice since coming off the layoff and has been well beaten in both starts.  Really has to turn it around to even hit the board.

6. Simperio
Owner:  The Kids
Trainer: Jim Fergason
Jockey: Mark Anderson
Had a nice closing victory just a week ago, and you had to think when this horse showed up a few weeks ago that he’d be pointed for this series, so Fergason should have him cranked up for his best.

7. Little Mordi
Owner:  Pablo Dejesus Alejandro
Trainer: Dayson Lavanway
Jockey: Luis Gonzalez
This is the second start off the layoff so he could improve of that sprint prep.  This is certainly a tougher heat than his last race, so he’ll have to improve.

8. Watch Your Money
Owner:  Clockwise Racing
Trainer: Jonathan Nance
Jockey: Debbie Hoonan
Should be prominent throughout and this horse has some heart.  I’d watch to see if Turntable Bay wins race 8 because this horse was just behind him last out.

9. General Joe
Owner:  Keith Beatty and Nick Lowe
Trainer: Nick Lowe
Jockey: Jorge Rosales
Hasn’t been seen since running a second at Burns under Tim Neal.  Shows a few bullet works on the page, definitely a wait and see this race.
