Consistent 'Slewshan' the favorite

Email

EDMONTON, Alberta - Our Slewshan, favored in each of her four starts this year, heads a field of six 3- and 4-year-old fillies sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs in Sunday's Northlands Park headliner. Our Slewshan's rider in this allowance race, for nonwinners-of-two, will be Quincy Welch. She has the rail.

Trained by Dale Saunders for co-owners Crystal Meadows, Dinger Investments, and Wayne Kraft, Our Slewshan has not been worse than second this year.

Hit Lady comes off a three-length victory against $17,500 claimers, which followed losses in two maiden special weight affairs. Sean Evans retains the mount.

Lucky Kelly defeated $25,000 claimers and then finished eighth when she moved up to an allowance. She will be ridden by Mike Iammarino, who was aboard when she was second, third, and fourth earlier this season against the $25,000 kind.

Tas Force, with Stephan Heiler up, will be making her eighth start of the season. Since winning her maiden May 18, she has been competing in optional claimers, where she has had a second and a third.

Shooting for their first victory of the year are Jewel Queen and Saucy Ciano. Shannon Bureaugard will ride Jewel Queen, who is coming off a second-place finish against $15,000 claimers. Saucy Ciano will have a new rider here in Chris McGregor after finishing fifth in an optional claimer in her only start of 2005.
