Conquest Mo Money stays perfect in Mine That Bird Derby

Conquest Mo Money strengthened his credentials for the Grade 3 Sunland Derby with a two-length score under Jorge Carreno in the Mine That Bird Derby.

Conquest Mo Money remained undefeated in three career starts Sunday, when he captured the $100,000 Mine That Bird Derby by two lengths over Irap. It was another two lengths back in third to Oh So Regal.

The Mine That Bird Derby served as the local prep for next month’s Grade 3, $800,000 Sunland Derby. The race was one of three stakes on the card. Mopotism became a stakes winner in the $75,000 Island Fashion and Forest Mouse won the 12th stakes race of his career in the $75,000 Curribot Handicap.

Conquest Mo Money ($4.60) was bullish on the front end, pushing Conquest Crown Me through an opening quarter-mile in 22.78 seconds. The eventual winner overtook Conquest Crown me, and proceeded to put up fractions of 46.33 for the half-mile and 1:11.33 for six furlongs. He then withstood a bid from even-money favorite Irap and went on to cover 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:43.12.

Jorge Carreno was aboard for Judge Lanier Racing and trainer Miguel Hernandez.

Conquest Mo Money’s three wins have all come around two turns, including the Riley Allison Derby at Sunland. He is a son of Uncle Mo and from the female family of Touch Gold. Conquest Mo Money has earned $132,900.

In the Island Fashion, Mopotism dueled and prevailed for a three-quarter length victory over Kell Paso. It was another 7 1/2 lengths back in third to Sippin, who suffered her first career defeat in eight starts Sunday.

The Island Fashion served as the local prep for the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks.

Mopotism ($2.60) sat off the pace set by Mattie Ross, who put up fractions of 22.85 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.16 for the half-mile. Mopotism took the lead through six furlongs in 1:10.52, battled Kell Paso, and covered the mile on a fast track in 1:36.18.

Mario Gutierrez was aboard for Reddam Racing and trainer Doug O’Neill.

Mopotism has now won two of six starts and $165,000. She is a daughter of Uncle Mo.

Forest Mouse ($6.80) won his third straight race in the $75,000 Curribot Handicap, when he was always prominent for a 1 1/2-length win over Overland Park. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to 3-5 favorite Semper Fortis.

Forest Mouse covered 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:42.17. Ry Eikleberry was aboard for trainer Henry Dominguez.

Forest Mouse is a son of Teton Forest who races for Solitaire Stable. He has a career record of 24 wins from 56 starts for earnings of $900,687. ​
