Conquest Enforcer, winning the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile at Santa Anita, was named a Sovereign Award finalist in the 3-year-old male, male turf horse, and male sprinter divisions, and is a good bet to be a finalist for Canadian Horse of the Year.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The Jockey Club of Canada announced the list of 2016 Sovereign Award finalists on Tuesday, and Conquest Enforcer has a chance to become a Canadian champion in four divisions.

Conquest Enforcer has been named a finalist in three divisions – 3-year old male, male turf horse, and male sprinter – and could also become a finalist for 2016 Canadian Horse of the Year. Finalists for Canadian Horse of the Year will be announced at the 42nd Sovereign Awards ceremony, which will be held at Palais Royale in Toronto on April 13.

It was an eventful year for Conquest Enforcer, who won three stakes and ran third in two graded stakes for trainer Mark Casse before being sold for $785,000 as part of the Conquest Stables dispersal at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale. He was purchased by a partnership that includes Loooch Racing Stables, Imaginary Stables, and Raquel Ritchie, and won the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile at Santa Anita on Dec. 26 under the care of trainer Phil D’Amato in his first start for his new connections. Overall, he won 4 of 6 starts last year.
