Congaree to Lane’s End Texas for 2016

Grade 1 winner Congaree will relocate to Lane’s End Texas in Hempstead, Texas for the 2016 breeding season for a fee to be announced later, American Racehorse reports.

The 17-year-old son of Arazi previously resided at Saratoga Stud in Stillwater, N.Y., where he stood the 2015 season for an advertised fee of $7,500.

Congaree is the sire of eight crops of racing age, with 175 winners and combined progeny earnings of more than $15.4 million. His top runners include Grade 1 winners Jeranimo, Don’t Tell Sophia, and Killer Graces, Grade 2 winner Shrinking Violet, Grade 3 winner Mythical Power, and Irish Group 3 winner Maoineach.

A homebred of Bob and Janice McNair’s Stonerside Stable, Congaree won 12 of 25 starts for earnings of $3,267,490. His 10 graded stakes victories include two editions of the Grade 1 Cigar Mile, as well as additional Grade 1 scores in the Hollywood Gold Cup, Swaps Stakes, and Carter Handicap. He also finished third in the 2001 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Congaree is the first foal out of the Grade 1-placed Mari’s Book mare Mari’s Sheba, whose three winners from four foals to race also includes Grade 1-placed stakes winner Sangaree. He is from the family of Grade 1 winner Wedding Toast.
