Competitive field for Iowa State Fair

A field of 10 fillies and mares is set to run in this year's renewal of the $50,000 Iowa State Fair Stakes at six furlongs. In what appears to be one of the most evenly matched fields of the meet, Vote Early may have a slight edge. After finishing third in an allowance race on the Ellis Parks turf course last time out, the Steve Margolis trainee arrives at Prairie Meadows in search of her first win of the year. The daughter of More Than Ready, who fired a bullet workout prior to shipping to Iowa, will be ridden by Tim Doocy.

Trainer Christine Janks will saddle the coupled entry of Pretty Jenny and Modjadji, and both appear to be well spotted. Pretty Jenny, although winless this year, has been testing tougher and must be considered on her best day. Jockey Belen Quinonez has been named on both parts of the entry.

Although Silent Street has only won 1 of 16 starts, the fact that she's been close on so many occasions, including a second-place finish here earlier this year, makes her a factor in the stakes puzzler. It's also worth noting that her career-high Beyer Speed Figure was produced in her runner-up effort in the Prairie Rose. Dylan Williams has the call.
