Grade 1 winner Competitive Edge will make his stallion debut in 2016 at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., for a fee to be announced at a later time.

The 3-year-old son of Super Saver won 4 of 7 career starts for earnings of $519,280, highlighted by wins in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes, Grade 3 Pat Day Mile Stakes, and non-graded Tamarac Stakes. Todd Pletcher trained Competitive Edge for owners Nancy Favreau, Kathy Psoinos, and Michael Tabor. The latter party bought into the colt after his 10 1/4-length debut win at Saratoga.

“Competitive Edge was a push-button horse from Day One and was exceptionally talented,” Pletcher said. “He had early speed, a fantastic temperament, and is a very good-looking individual – all the attributes to make an impact as a stallion, just like his sire.”

Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, Competitive Edge is the first foal out of the multiple stakes-placed Cape Town mare Magdelena’s Chase, and was a $750,000 purchase from the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Florida select 2-year-olds in training sale. His extended family includes Grade 1 winner All Fired Up and Grade 2 winners Wild Syn and Pick of the Litter.

“As a juvenile, he won the Hopeful in the fastest time since 2001, and this year he broke the stakes record for a mile at Churchill Downs,” said Ashford Stud manager Dermot Ryan. “He is a lovely horse, and I think breeders will be very impressed when they see him. He’s at the farm and available for inspection.”
