Commentator tops of New Yorkers


Commentator, Acey Deucey, and J'ray were named double 2005 statebred champions by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders on Monday, with Commentator given the horse of the year accolade, the group announced Tuesday.

Commentator also was named champion older male, while Acey Deucey took champion 3-year-old filly and champion sprinter, and J'ray became the first horse to win the breeders' awards for champion juvenile filly and champion turf female in the same year.

Two-time juvenile stakes winner and Triple Crown candidate Sharp Humor was named best New York-bred 2-year-old male.

Other divisional winners were Capeside Lady as champion older female, The Daddy as top 3-year-old male, and Certifiably Crazy as best turf male. I'm Hit Sarge took the prize as champion steeplechaser.

Also honored were the late millionaire and multiple stakes-producing mare Antespend as broodmare of the year, Bruce Levine as trainer of the year, and Sez Who Thoroughbreds as breeder of the year. Richard Migliore was named top jockey for the second consecutive year.
