Comic Strip filly brings $120k

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A $120,000 Comic Strip filly was the leader at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as Day 9 of Keeneland's 11-day November breeding stock sale continued. Robert E. Courtney's Crestfield Farm, agent, sold the weanling filly to Tom Van Meter.

The bay filly is out of Delta Slew, a stakes-placed Seattle Slew mare, who also has produced the stakes-winner Meadow Pipit (Meadowlake) and stakes-placed Coup Fizzles (Devil's Bag).

On Monday, at the auction's eighth session, young broodmare Swiftly Classic brought $145,000 to top the session. Woodlynn Farm bought Swiftly Classic, who sold in foal to Old Trieste. Anderson Farms, acting as agent for Sam-Son Farms, sold the 4-year-old Sky Classic mare, who is a daughter of Swift Alliance (Afleet).

Overall, Monday's eighth session sold 220 lots for gross revenue of $3,561,200 for an average price of $16,187; median price was $11,750. The eight-day gross was $172,324,000 from 1,779 lots sold, producing an average price of $96,866 for the period and median price of $35,000.
