Come Fly Away relishes Maryland trips

Come Fly Away trains in New York, but she does her best running in Maryland.

Making her fifth straight start since January in Maryland, the 4-year-old filly Come Fly Away ($3.40) scored her third win during that span and captured her first stakes in the $50,000 Shine Again at Pimlico.

Jockey Luis Garcia, given the mount on Come Fly Away for the first time by trainer Mike Hushion, saved ground in third on the rail throughout most of the 1 1/16-mile race for Maryland-bred fillies and mares. Come Fly Away responded when Garcia asked her to rally entering the stretch. She took command in midstretch and prevailed by a half-length in front of Take a Check. Hanalei Bay finished third.

"I knew I had the best horse in the race," Garcia said. "I had enough horse to save ground and took my time. The rail opened, I went for it, and she won easy."

In winning for the fifth time in 15 lifetime starts, Come Fly Away covered the distance on a fast track in 1:44.75.
