Columbus track report


Monday's win by Lali's Cat ($23) in the $10,650 Labor Day Handicap gave leading trainer David Anderson his fourth win of the day at Columbus.

Ope ($6) opened the win spree with a six-length romp against fellow 2-year-olds in the third race, a maiden special weight event. Anderson followed up by saddling Bumpitee ($9.60) to win the sixth and Bella La Ghosi ($7.80) to win the eighth.

With the meet entering its final weekend, average attendance and handle figures are even with last year's. Daily attendance is averaging 2,087 in 2005, compared with 2,066 entering the final weekend a year ago. Ontrack handle stands at $64,327, compared with $64,357 last year, while the offtrack figures are up: This year's average is $46,483, compared with $42,541 last year.

The meet finishes up Sunday with the $12,500-added Columbus Debutante and Columbus Juvenile Stakes on tap. On Saturday, the Michelob Light Starter Series concludes with the 1 3/8-mile marathon leg of the series for a purse of $5,700.
