Columbus: Slight edge to Bach's Homebrew in talented Labor Day field

Email

Bach’s Homebrew may rate a slight edge in a talent-filled five-horse field for the $10,000 Labor Day Stakes at the Columbus Races on Monday.

Honkytonk Stomp equaled the track record for a half-mile at Fonner Park this past spring and will represent just one of the strong speed horses in the field. He will have to contend with the talented 3-year-old Song of Humor, a winner of seven straight races this year.

Bach’s Homebrew has won five stakes this year and is a certified closer, as is Omaha Stakes runner-up Tenth Power.

Song of Humor and Tenth Power both hail from the barn of owner/trainer Milton Gaede but will be uncoupled in the wagering.

Bach’s Homebrew comes off a strong six-length win against statebreds in the Amadevil Stakes on Aug. 13. Prior to that, he won the Who Doctor Who Handicap at Horsemen’s Park in Omaha on July 23. He was beaten by Tenth Power in the HBPA Stakes at Lincoln Race Course in his start prior to that but always runs well over this track.
