Columbus: Death Trappe big chalk

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Death Trappe should loom a heavy favorite to score his third stakes victory of the year when he heads a field of seven Nebraska-breds in the $15,000-added Amadevil Handicap at six furlongs.

Trained by Tom Garry, Death Trappe won the Ogataul Handicap at Fonner Park in March and most recently was a strong three-length winner of the Who Doctor Who Handicap at Horsemen's Park on July 17. Armando Martinez has the ride from post 2 under top weight of 122 pounds.

The mare Irish Flyer could well be the biggest challenge to the favorite. Irish Flyer was second in the Falls Amiss Handicap at Horsemen's Park in her last start and won the Matchmaker Handicap in Lincoln prior to that. Dennis Collins has the ride for trainer Terrell Hemmer from post 1 under 115 pounds.

Irish Flyer has been one of the state's most consistent mares the past few seasons. A 5-year-old by Wind Flyer, she has posted a 12-6-5 mark from 34 starts for earnings of $120,936. This year she is 2-2-0 from five starts.

Andy Johnson sends out the coupled entry of What About David and High Tech Racing, both of whom he acquired through the claim box earlier this year.

Johnson haltered What About David for $6,500 in April and has captured two wins since. High Tech Racing was a $10,000 purchase in his last start when fourth at Horsemen's Park. Mark Luark rides High Tech Racing from post 3 while Jerry Carkeek is aboard What About David in post 5.
