Columbus: Breeders' Sweeps Day


COLUMBUS, Neb. - The Nebraska Breeders' Sweepstakes, a pair of $15,000 races for 2-year-olds going six furlongs - one for colts and geldings and the other for fillies - highlight Sunday's card at Columbus.

C. C. Diamond and Mr Clearwater top a field of six in the Juvenile for colts and geldings.

C. C. Diamond won the Columbus Futurity on Aug. 26, opening up by as many as five lengths and winning the six-furlong race by two lengths under Armando Martinez, who has a return call. Mr Clearwater was caught in deep stretch of a maiden special weight race at Prairie Meadows on Aug. 24 after opening a clear lead. Glenn Corbett rides.

Magic Trump is the only winner in the field of five fillies in the Debutante. She won her maiden at first asking on Sept. 1 going 3 1/2 furlongs. Leading rider Jerry Carkeek has the mount.
