Columbus: Amadevil ripe for upset

There are several angles to consider when a field of seven older Nebraska-breds line up for the $17,500-added Amadevil Stakes at Columbus.

All of the entrants in the Amadevil, a six-furlong race, have run well over this track, but Thundering Verzy is 4 for 4 here and High Fleet is 2 for 2. Also back is the defending champion in the Amadevil, Doug's Shadow, although this will be only his second start of the year and his first since mid-March at Fonner Park. High Dice is turning back in distance off his Who Doctor Who Handicap win at Horsemen's Park, and What About David looks like a threat to get loose on the lead.

High Fleet rates the upset pick in this spot as he turns back in distance off a second-place finish in the State Fair Board Handicap at Lincoln on July 4. Owned and trained by Roland Schulze, High Fleet appears to be rounding back to the form he showed early in the season, when he won the Ogataul Stakes at Fonner Park. Larren Delorme will ride from post 2.

What About David is the front-running threat in this field. Trained by Marv Johnson, What About David set the pace in the one-mile Who Doctor Who at Horsemen's Park but faded in the final furlong. One race before, he won the Big Red Mile at Lincoln. R.D. Williams will be aboard from post 3.
