Colt at Ocala brings $39K

A $39,000 Delaware Township- Emeralds and Rubys colt that Cashel Stud, agent, sold to Grey Dawn Stables and Ennis Ranch was the session leader as of 5 p.m. on Thursday's Day 4 of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s fall mixed sale in Florida.

At Wednesday's session, the first of two open sessions, a $31,000 Trippi-Sparkling Honey weanling filly was the top seller on a final bid from Dry Creek Stables; Cashel Stud, agent, consigned the filly.

A total of 190 lots were sold at the Wednesday session for $743,700, down 8 percent from last year, when 179 horses sold. Average price was $3,914 (down 13 percent), while median was unchanged at $2,700, and the buyback rate dropped from 29 percent last year to 21 percent in 2003.
