Colt has record sale work

A Red Bullet colt out of Sookloozy became the fastest colt ever to work an eighth of a mile for a Barretts May sale on Thursday when he breezed in 9.60 seconds.

The sizzling workout was part of the Barretts May 2-year-old auction's first preview day at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif. The second preview, featuring Hip Nos. 190-378, was to take place Friday.

The fast colt, a California-bred, will be on offer as Hip No. 80 as part of Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree agency's consignment. A $190,000 Keeneland September yearling last year, he was withdrawn from the Barretts March auction this season.

Hip No. 156, a Chief Seattle-Abby's Magic gelding, also covered the distance in under 10 seconds, breezing in 9.80 seconds. He hails from the Ben Craft agency.

The quickest quarter-mile work at Thursday's preview was Hip No. 120, who went in 20.80 seconds. A Flying Chevron colt, he is out of Too Much Madam. His consignor is B. C. 3. Thoroughbreds, acting as agent for Neversink Stables.
