Spring Kitten wears down Our Mariah to win the $50,000 Buckland Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday.

Our Mariah looked home free when she cut the corner turning for home and took the lead in Saturday's $50,000 Buckland Stakes at Colonial Downs. But Spring Kitten and jockey Kaymarie Kreidel, who had been passed by Our Mariah in early stretch, found another gear and wore down Our Mariah to win the 5 1/2-furlong turf race by a neck.

The second-longest shot in the nine-horse field of fillies and mares, Spring Kitten paid $31.40. Spring Kitten, owned by Brick House Farm and trained by Bev Heckrotte, ran the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.68.

Glowing Breeze, the 9-5 favorite, finished third.

Spring Kitten was nearly 15-1 for a reason. Her last victory came more than a year ago, in an entry-level allowance at Pimlico. But she had hinted at improvement in her previous start, finishing second by a neck to Glowing Breeze in a Pimlico allowance.
