Colonial: With Patience cruises

With Patience wins the $60,000 Brookmeade Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday.

There were no surprises in the $60,000 Brookmeade Stakes at Colonial Downs. With Patience justified her 2-5 favoritism with a 4 1/2-length stroll in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. Old Fashion Girl, the 5-2 second choice in the six-horse field, wasn't even able to give With Patience a scare, but finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Miswes, who at 7-1 was the third choice in the field.

A multiple stakes winner with earnings of more than $330,000 going into the race, With Patience laid over the field in terms of class. The victory was the first of the year for With Patience, a 6-year-old With Approval mare owned and trained by Ann Merryman. She was coming off a fifth-place finish in the Grade 2 Nassau at Woodbine and a second-place finish in the Voodoo Dancer at Belmont.

With Patience, ridden by Ryan Fogelsonger, covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.40 and paid $2.80.
