Colonial: Aged mare one to beat

Email

All That Glitters will try to prove she's still a stakes-caliber turf sprinter in the $50,000 Somethingroyal for Virginia-bred fillies and mares at Colonial Downs.

A 10-year-old mare, All That Glitters will be returning from an eight-month layoff, but trainer Mike Trombetta excels with runners who have been idle more than 180 days, hitting at a 50-percent clip the past two years. All That Glitters won three in a row at Colonial last season, including the Somethingroyal by four lengths.

Most of her competition in the 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint are either unproven on the grass or unaccustomed to racing such a short distance.

Little Miss Pamela is 2 for 2 in turf sprints, but hasn't raced at less than 1 1/16 miles on grass in nearly two years.

With Patience, the 124-pound highweight, comes out of a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico, a 1 1/16-mile race, and is versatile enough to have finished in the money in both her turf sprints.
