Collerosa shortening up for DePaulo

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Collerosa, who was once under consideration for Sunday's Queen's Plate, heads a large field of runners in Wednesday's seventh race, a first-level allowance for Ontario-sired stock.

Collerosa, trained by Mike DePaulo for owner Frank Romano, garnered some black type in October, finishing a distant third behind Utterly Cool and Silver Rocket in the restricted Cup and Saucer Stakes on turf. His final 2-year-old effort, however, was a disappointing 11th-place finish in the Kingarvie Stakes on Polytrack in November.

In his 2009 debut, Collerosa made his way through traffic to prevail in a five-furlong maiden special over the talented Mr. Foricos Two U. He subsequently ran third behind a pair of next-out winners in a seven-furlong allowance, and is coming off a closing runner-up placing in a slow-paced 1 1/16-mile allowance route.

Jono Jones picks up the mount on Collerosa, who is shortening up to six furlongs. DePaulo has been winning at a 12 percent clip with his turnbacks.

Aced the Moves has been knocking on the door in Ontario-sired allowance company, ever since he crushed $12,500 maidens in his second appearance at the meet. He came on belatedly for third Aprilo29, and lacked room before rallying for second behind the promising Daniel Be Good on Mayo15.

Most recently going seven furlongs June 3, Aced the Moves rallied inside against the grain of a strong outside bias to end up third under regular rider Emma Wilson.

King Eddie graduated by a head in a six-furlong turf sprint last August over Clarkstoncharm, who is also in Wednesday's feature.

King Eddie's only flat performance in six starts came when he went 1 1/16 miles in his final 2008 appearance in October. He finished a mere half-length back in third in his season opener, earning his fourth consecutive Beyer Speed Figure in the low 70s.

Patrick Husbands will ride King Eddie, who will have blinkers taken off.

Clarkstoncharm finally graduated with authority over a weak field in his first start of the year, on April 18. He missed the board in both of his May outings, including in an open allowance on the grass.

Jet Set Exec defeated Aced the Moves in his season debut, but finished behind him in fourth and fifth in his two most recent excursions.

Knight's Quest has been idle since ending up third in his first attempt outside the maiden ranks Dec. 3.
