Cobalt Creek was up for a neck win over Wild Tycoon on Saturday night in the Grade 1, $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap at Lone Star Park. It was another three-quarters of a length back to the favored Dutcher in third. The Refrigerator is Lone Star’s premier race for older Quarter Horses. Cobalt Creek ($17.40) had trouble at the start but overcame it to cover 440 yards on a fast track in 21.59 seconds. Ricky Ramirez was aboard for trainer John Stinebaugh. “We had a little bit of a rough beginning,” Ramirez said. “He broke decent but got into a little bit of traffic, got bumped around. Once they opened up a lane for him, he came running.” Cobalt Creek earned $41,250 for the win, his seventh from 27 starts. He has earned $258,303.
