Closing day carryover must be paid out

ARCADIA, Calif. - Sunday's final day of the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting features a pick six carryover of $178,359. Because Sunday is the final day of the meeting, there is a compulsory pick six payoff even if there are no ticketholders with six winners. If there are no tickets with six winners, consolation tickets with five winners will share the pool.

There were no winning tickets in Saturday's pick six after the longshots Papanonie ($26.80), Arnone ($19.60), Stoneside ($31.80) and Petite Cherie ($30) won the first four legs. Finding those winners proved to be impossible. The track announced that there was a carryover on Sunday with two pick six races remaining on Saturday. No favorites won during Saturday's pick six.

Sunday's program features an 11-race program, with the pick six covering the sixth through 11th races. All of Sunday’s pick six races feature fields of eight or more. There are three turf races, including the $250,000 San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap over about 1 3/4 miles. The race is led by Shamdinan, the runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Turf last November, and On the Acorn, the defending champion.

There are three races on the main track, including two maiden races over 5 1/2 furlongs that are oversubscribed. The seventh race, a maiden special weight for 3-year-olds over 5 1/2 furlongs, has drawn 13 runners, and is led by Modification, who is making his second start. The 11th race is a maiden claimer over 5 1/2 furlongs that has drawn a field of 14. Both races over 5 1/2 furlongs will be limited to 12 starters.
