Closely matched pair at Pimlico

Five Diamonds and Amie's Legend, each coming off a victory against open company in which they earned near-identical Beyer Speed Figures, look difficult to separate in the $50,000 Shine Again Stakes at Pimlico.

The 1 1/16-mile race, restricted to Maryland-bred fillies and mares, drew a field of seven, including a coupled entry for owner-trainer Mary Eppler.

Of the top two contenders, the 4-year-old Amie's Legend may be favored again, just as she has been in her last four starts.

Trained by Graham Motion, Amie's Legend will be dropping into restricted company for the first time after a 3 1/4-length score against optional claimers at Delaware Park, earning a 69 Beyer.

The 3-year-old Five Diamonds handled her first two-turn assignment and her initial attempt against older company when she led wire to wire in a first-level allowance nearly a month ago. Like Amie's Legend, Five Diamonds is dropping into statebred company for the first time.

Five Diamonds will likely face pace pressure from Four Karats, the pacesetter in a starter handicap on the Black-Eyed Susan undercard last weekend, and Silent Diva, who led throughout the first six furlongs of last month's 1 1/16-mile Geisha.

A contested pace could benefit Eye, a 5-year-old starter handicap-caliber runner who wheels back eight days after rallying to win one of those events as the 4-5 favorite.
