Clock Stopper, winner of the Grade 2 Commonwealth Breeders' Cup at Keeneland on Saturday, exited the race with a bowed tendon and has been retired, trainer Dallas Stewart said Tuesday.

"It was a very, very bittersweet day for us," said Stewart. "He cooled out good after the race, but right after we put him in his stall, he took a bad step. We took him out and examined him and eventually found a tear in the tendon in his left front leg."

, a 5-year-old gelding by Gilded Time, won 6 of 20 races and earned $779,524 for owner Overbrook Farm. Stewart said Clock Stopper currently is under the care of Dr. Robert Copelan in Lexington, Ky., but probably would move to Overbrook in the near future after being stabilized.

Clock Stopper snapped an eight-race losing streak in the Commonwealth.
