Classy filly April Foolish in '06 bow

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - April Foolish makes her 2006 debut in an optional $50,000 claiming sprint for fillies and mares that goes as the eighth race at Hastings on Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong feature drew eight horses.

April Foolish won her first three races last year and ran very well in her fourth and final outing of 2005 to finish second to Spirit to Spare in an optional $62,500 claiming race Sept. 3. Spirit to Spare went on to place in a graded stakes at Santa Anita, and she also won the first two sprint stakes for fillies and mares at this meet.

Trained by Toni Cloutier, April Foolish earned a bullet for her six-furlong work on May 10, and with her good speed she figures to be involved right from the start.

David Wilson has the mount on April Foolish.

Wilson makes an interesting move by taking off of a very sharp Vye Me to the Moon, who is coming off a win in an optional $50,000 claiming sprint May 7. Vye Me to the Moon broke poorly, but recovered quickly and then stalked a moderate pace. She tired noticeably in deep stretch, but held on to beat What a Blurr by a head.

Vye Me to the Moon is trained by David Milburn and will be ridden by Mark Walker.

Virtuous Lady also has good speed, and should appreciate the drop into an easier spot after chasing Spirit to Spare and Monashee in the Vancouver Sun Handicap May 13.
