ELMONT, N.Y. - Classy Charm rolled to a four-length win over 4-5 favorite Sweet Symphony in the $65,650 A Wild Ride Stakes for fillies and mares Friday at Belmont Park. Classy Charm ($12.80), with Mike Smith aboard for trainer John Kimmel, earned her fourth win in 19 career starts. The 4-year-old took charge with a strong inside move on the turn to pull clear. The time for the one mile was 1:37.69 on the fast track. Chili Cat got third followed by Judy Soda and Cherry Bomb. Sweet Symphony, last in the five-horse field, swung widest turning for home. Jockey Garrett Gomez, aboard for the first time, asked last year's winner of the Grade 1 Alabama for more run in the lane but did not get the needed response. "I thought I was in a decent spot, that they were running going fast enough for her," Gomez said. "When we turned for home, she just didn't finish the way that I anticipated. She just went up and down. She never really gave me a trying effort." Sweet Symphony is now winless in five races since the Alabama triumph last August in Saratoga.
