Classic Jourdan eyes repeat

AUBURN, Wash. - An evenly matched field of six fillies and mares, each eligible to be claimed for $16,000 to $14,000, square off at a mile in Friday's best race at Emerald Downs.

The field includes three last-out winners, including Classic Jourdan, who posted an impressive win over $16,000 company in her last outing on June 12. Classic Jourdan, a 5-year-old daughter of Desert Classic from the barn of trainer Robbie Baze, came from last place to win by three lengths, going 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.40. It was the fifth win in 25 starts for Classic Jourdan, who defeated $8,000 rivals going a mile here last season.

Asummerforwindy and Got You Slew, who finished second and fourth behind Classic Jourdan on June 12, are back to try again on Friday.

The two other recent winners are Lady Buccaneer and Well Mam. Lady Buccaneer, who dropped to the $6,250 level, scored a 4 1/2-length win at a mile on June 13. Well Mam dead-heated for the win with Lasting Kiss in a six-furlong race for $12,500 claimers on June 10, getting the distance in 1:10.20.

Rounding out the field is Bless My Soles, who scratched when entered in a $20,000 sprint on June 25. In her last outing, Bless My Soles finished fourth in a mile race for $10,000 starter allowance horses on May 31. She was beaten only 1 1/4 lengths by Be Still My Heart, who covered the distance in 1:36.20.

Be Still My Heart came back to run sixth of nine in the one-mile King County Handicap on June 26.
