Clairvoyant Lady springs 30-1 upset in White Clay Creek Stakes

Heavy favorite You Know Too was fastest early in the $50,125 White Clay Creek Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Delaware Park on Wednesday but Clairvoyant Lady had the most run when it counted and was up late to spring a $63.60 upset in the six-horse field.

Clairvoyant Lady, trained by Cathal Lynch and ridden by Trevor McCarthy, had a lot of work to do entering the stretch of the 5 1/2-furlong race but kept coming and ran by You Know Too nearing the wire to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

You Know Too was made the 1-5 favorite following her six-length debut win at Delaware. When the gates opened, four horses went for the early lead and You Know Too bided her time while racing four wide.

She easily took the lead on the far turn following a quarter-mile in 21.86 seconds and opened a sizeable advantage in upper stretch. But following a half in 46.05 she began to flatten out and that opened the door for Clairvoyant Lady, who completed the course in 1:05.93.

The win was McCarthy's third of the day at Delaware.

You Know Too held second by 1 1/2 lengths over Easy Money, who attended the pace while racing one horse off the inner rail. La Key, who raced outside Easy Money early, finished fourth, another three-quarters of a length back.

Clairvoyant Lady came into the White Clay Creek off a neck win over $40,000 maiden-claimers at Laurel Park and was dismissed as the second-longest shot in the field. She is now 2 for 3 in her career.
